Chevella Layne, Director of Mission Services at Goodwill Industries of East Texas for the last 5 years, arrived in Tyler, TX in 2014 as the Program Manager and was later promoted as the Director of Mission Services. She worked at Goodwill Industries of KYOWVA in Huntington, WV for 6 years as a Counselor, serving victims of crime ages 3 to adult, couples and individuals. As a counselor she worked with court representatives: Guardian ad Litem, prosecutors, and judges, advocating and testifying on behalf of victims. Her career also provided experience in diverse arena’s including the foster care system, mental health, education, legal aid, and community recreation. Mrs. Layne has facilitated classes for anger management, parenting, work place training for staff, and more.
She was introduced to Goodwill through an internship for a Master’s degree and never walked away. She fell in love with the Mission.
She holds a Master’s Degree in Community Counseling, with a Certificate in Family, Marriage, Couple’s Counseling, a Certificate in Domestic Violence from Marshall University Graduate School in Huntington, WV, a Bachelor’s of Social Work Degree from Jackson State University in Jackson, MS, an Associate’s Degree in Sociology and Social Welfare from Hinds Community College in Hinds, MS. She earned her Certification as a Community Health Worker from the Texas Department of State Health Services. Chevella also holds the following certifications from UNTWISE: Director, Job Placement, and Job Skills Training.
She is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. She was inducted into Alpha Phi Alpha Honor Society, and has served as a volunteer for many organizations including, Goodwill Industries of KYOWVA youth mentor with the GoodGuides Program and a volunteer tax preparer with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program.
She loves to be expressive through her singing, poetry, play writing, and other creative styles. She is a proud mother of 3 bright and wonderful young adults.
