Goodwill East Texas Receives $7,800 Grant to Support Expungement Clinic
Goodwill Industries of East Texas, Inc. has been awarded a $7,800 grant from the Texas Bar Foundation to support its upcoming Expungement Clinic—an initiative designed to help individuals who have been justice impacted remove barriers to employment and rebuild their futures.
The clinic will be hosted through Goodwill’s Re-Entry Program in collaboration with Easy Expungement. During the clinic, Easy Expungement’s team of legal aides and attorneys will provide each participant with a copy of their criminal record. Once eligible charges are identified, the team will begin the onboarding process to have those charges expunged or sealed.
“Expungement is the legal bridge between who you were and who you are becoming,” said Nicholas McGrew, Goodwill’s Re-Entry Manager and EAP Facilitator. “It removes the paper trail of the past so your hard work in the present can actually pay off.”
This grant will allow Goodwill to serve 15 East Texans, giving them a second chance to move forward without the weight of past mistakes holding them back. Currently, there are no other programs in East Texas offering free assistance to help individuals navigate the expungement process.
Through this effort, Goodwill continues its mission of putting East Texans to work—removing barriers, restoring dignity, and opening doors to new opportunities.
