ETHNN
2019 Healthcare Needs Assessment

Poverty generates poor health and poor health generates poverty.
In every aspect of healthcare from being sick to getting care, from prevention to aftercare, people in poverty don’t fare as well as people in middle class or wealth.

The top three needs in healthcare for all respondents were:

  1. Vision Care
  2. Dental Care
  3. Care for Hypertension

The top three needs in healthcare for respondents who do not have healthcare coverage were:

  1. Dental Care
  2. General Medical Care
  3. Vision Care

The table on the right shows the Key Poverty Indicators and Top Needs only for those respondents who have no healthcare coverage.

#SickOfItTX gives Texans a platform to demand that state leaders and lawmakers take action to ensure every Texan has healthcare coverage. In 2019 we hit the streets in our first-ever Block Walk for Healthcare to talk to Texans about healthcare, health insurance, and getting care when they’re uninsured. In 2020 we’ve held online rallies and town halls and organized thousands of calls, letters, and petition signatures addressed to Gov. Greg Abbott and Atty. Gen. Ken Paxton. Check out our latest campaign Dear Greg Abbott, where Texans talk about their struggles to get quality, affordable healthcare.
